| Predictions of a downfall in the ringtones market have long held little sway. In fact, the roaring success continues, as can be seen from some very interesting figures emerging from the Asia market. For example Japan, which can be considered one of the most mature mobile markets had 2 billion polyphonic ring tone downloads in 2004. 2 billion! Or as one music site attests, 22 polyphonic ringtone downloads per mobile subscriber in the country. The figures are given by Ringtonia as a pointer to the way things will move in other markets across the world. If that is to happen, the one to watch is Korea which already boasts a $3 billion music download industry (full tracks plus ringtones) and predictions of sales of 10 million mobile handsets that are music-capable there, this year alone. |
