World famous New York nightclub
CBGB is in danger of closing its doors,
and has begun a month long benefit
drive of concerts to raise the
necessary rescue funds. You can help
too, by signing a petition or donate
funds on the club's special site.

For 31 years now, CBGB has worked
to provide a 'space for new creativity in
music and art, a spotlight for young
talent, and a unique safe-space to
pursue art and free expression'.

CBs woes are stemming from a dispute
with its landlord, a $25 million dollar a
year 'non-profit' that charges CBs
$19,000 a month in rent. According to
CBs website, the landlord company will
not negotiate for a lease renewal.

The current lease is due to expire
August 31, 2005. Accordingly, the
month of nightly benefits at the club will
culminate in a Washington Square
Park concert and rally on the 31st.

Founded in 1973,
CBGB became
associated with the successes and
beginnings of such acts as The
Ramones, Patti Smith, Talking Heads
and Blondie.
