| Today's trends in mobile communication lead to new and interesting ways to connect with people. Composer and scientist Mikael Fernström has designed unique ways to apply this to music. TXT U LTR is a composition for orchestra based on data sources from mobile text (sms) messages and e-mail, combined with everyday sounds from the modern working environment. The multimedia piece was generated in part by computer algorithms based on textual input from members of the public to RTE's Lyric FM station. In addition to the orchestral ensemble, members of Daghda dance, vocalists and video producers combined to generate the work. Mikael's past work includes the astounding Cóisir an tSionann (The Shannon Suite) piece which was performed at the great Turbine Hall at Ardnacrusha. |
