| Avoision's site has some nice pieces that tie together music, art and science. For example the pi10k experiment is based on the concept of generation music from numbers, in this case the symbol Pi. The concept here is quite simple - assign pitch values to 10,000 places of a decimal expansion, but don't worry about rhythm. However the interesting part lies in the idea that there exists a greater tie between musical sound and mathematical truth. After all, music and sound are just a series of interpreted air particle frequency values. This reminds me of a book I read by Marcus du Sautoy called the Music of the Primes. Back to the avoision website and there are a number of other interesting experiments to check out involving music and visualization. We're always interested in the intersection of sound and mathematical or scientific realm, so if you've got the knowledge, please do share! |
